Type Tasting

Sarah Hyndman is a designer/researcher, author, international speaker and founder of Type Tasting. She’s written books including the bestselling Why Fonts Matter (Penguin). Sarah co-publishes research with Professor Charles Spence (University of Oxford), and is chef Heston Blumenthal’s experiential font science expert.
Her new podcast Seeing Senses is inspired by over 12 years creating multi-sensory, mass participation typography experiments; and Sarah’s quest to figure out the “why?” behind the results.
Sarah’s been interviewed by CNN, Dazed, Wired and Michael Rosen. She’s spoken at SXSW, Adobe MAX, adidas, BBC, Design Thinkers, GroupM, WGSN and TEDx. She’s a regular expert guest on BBC radio and has popped up on TV shows like Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch.
She’s gone from investigating typography to studying neuroscience. She believes that the most exciting ideas happen when we connect across different disciplines.
Or, follow her on LinkedIn for design tips and resources.

Bring your curiosity and join in with this interactive talk.
- What we see can influence what we taste, smell, feel, and choose.
- Sight is only a gateway to our memories and perception.
- The glitches in our perception are where the magic happens.
